Employee Spotlight: George Double

For November’s employee spotlight we sat down with our Javascript Recruiter, George Double. George has just celebrated his five year anniversary, and it’s safe to say it’s been an incredible five years.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to celebrate George’s five year anniversary this week. Starting as a resourcer back in 2015, George has worked incredibly hard, kicking goals year on year, and has truly stood for our values here. Not only is he a very talented consultant, but also a wonderful human being who inspires others.

Thank you George for a wonderful five years.”

– Ben Athey, Director at SustainAbility Consulting

You’re happiest when?

I’m in the ocean.

What’s your favourite quote or personal philosophy?

Your experience in life is not determined by your circumstances, it is determined by your reaction to those circumstances.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

Wow. What a question. Hawaii is pretty magical. The Big Island, Kealakehua bay you’ll find 30-50 Spinner Dolphins cruising about most mornings to swim alongside.

What surprised you most about working in recruitment?

Ben always says, “if you can do recruitment, you can do anything”. It’s cliché but it’s true, the sheer diversity of skills you need to do the job well is remarkable, its taught me that you can do anything you set your mind to.

What is your greatest achievement?

Last year I competed in Ironman NZ with my colleague Tim Baldwin, which is a 140 mile, swim, bike & run race, that was pretty special.

What doors has recruitment opened for you that you didn’t expect?

My entire life in Australia… If it wasn’t for my job and the team around me I wouldn’t have settled here in Australia. It’s allowed me to pursue a career in Tech, all whilst swimming in the ocean daily & living this beautiful Australian life!

What is your fondest memory with SustainAbility?

I have so many, but heliskiing in Queenstown has got to be the winner. Diving the Barrier reef with the team also deserves a mention. (& losing director Pete Zonnevylle 18metres underwater, I should add 😂)

What personal attributes have you gained throughout your time at SustainAbility?

5 years, what a ride! Recruitment at the best of times is not sailing in the wind, I have gone through a huge journey of self-development which involved really understanding myself & my mental health; stress and anxiety. It’s been a journey I’m humbled to be on, I have learnt so much.

If you could go back to your first day, what’s one piece of advice you would give yourself?

“Look after yourself”. Recruitment, like any sales job can be stressful & I’ve worked really had to tune into how I’m feeling. I’ve learnt to practice meditation to help me be at my best.

What are you most grateful for from your Directors?

Credit goes to the four partners of the business for building a business strong to their values and hiring the right people. We’re a business full of good human beings. My colleagues are legends, we look after each other, we hold integrity & honesty above everything, and we enjoy the journey together as well as the destination.
