Employee Spotlight: Scott Allen

SustainAbility Consulting is proud to celebrate Scott Allen’s four year anniversary with our company. Scott joined us in 2016 as a consultant and has been hitting goals every year since.

I’m so happy to be celebrating Scott’s 4 year anniversary today. Since joining Scott has developed into an amazing senior contract accounting recruiter,” said Martin O’Donnell, Co-founder and Director of Sustainability Consulting. “His professionalism, delivery focus and customer-centric approach is the embodiment of Sustainability’s philosophy. Congrats Scotty and thanks for all your help and support over the years. We wish you all the best over what is sizing up to be a huge year for you.”

Meet Scott and get to know him through this months Employee Spotlight:

You’re happiest when?

Travelling probably makes me the happiest, nothing beats jumping on a plane with my wife going to new places or visiting friends and family scattered around the globe. I am also about to become a first-time dad so spending time with my boy will make me the happiest and I can’t wait to be able share that love of travel with my son.

What’s your favourite quote or personal philosophy?

I don’t really have a quote but I remember once hearing a comedian say “just try to be a good person” he used far more colourful language than me but you get the drift. I figure at the very least as we go about our day, we can try to be a good person.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

I have so many and it often depends on my mood. I love being at the family farm watching the sun set in front of the fire with some music playing and a nice glass of red in hand. Equally, I would be just as happy diving a reef somewhere in the Caribbean. Ultimately to me, any place can be a favourite as long as you are sharing it with the right people.

What surprised you most about working in recruitment?

I have been really fortunate over my career to meet some incredibly talented clients and candidates and I think I underestimated just how much I could learn from all the people I have interacted with over the years. There is a lot of financial freedom that comes with a successful career in recruitment but even after 9 or so years and as cliché as it sounds the joy of presenting an offer to a candidate has never faded.

What has been your biggest achievement/success here?

I was biggest biller in the group last year which is the first time I have achieved it, considering the extremely high calibre of consultants across the group it felt pretty great to achieve that result. Equally I am extremely proud of some of the relationships I have built with clients and candidates since joining, I know I will be celebrating and supporting them as they continue to kick their own career goals.

What door has recruitment opened for you that you didn’t expect?

Maybe not so much a door but new friendships with people I wouldn’t have had the chance to interact with if it wasn’t for recruitment. The Sustainability team plus our sister businesses Lotus People, Sustain Digital and Sustain Health are filled with genuine, hard-working and fun-loving people and I feel lucky to call them friends.

What is your fondest memory with SustainAbility?

It has to be the people. I have worked with some great people over the years but this group just standouts out as the best I have ever worked with. Canoeing through Kangaroo valley, sailing to Whitehaven beach or hitting the phones on a big BD day with team – All of that was made more enjoyable because of the people I was with.

What personal attributes have you gained throughout your time at SC?

I don’t know that I have gained any new attributes, maybe I have but you might have to ask someone else that question. Integrity, respect and loyalty are attributes I firmly believe in and this team has them in spades so I feel right at home.

If you could go back to your first day, what’s one piece of advice you would give yourself?

To be honest, I would probably just give myself a high-five and tell myself how lucky I am to have landed where I have. I contemplated leaving the industry before joining Sustainability but coming in to this business has been one of the best career decisions I have made. I would simply assure myself that I have made the right decision.

Three things your most grateful for from your Directors?

Their diverse personalities and approaches to recruitment and not just within Sustainability but Sinead, Hollie and Kay from our sister businesses as well, they are all masters of their craft and I have learnt from each of them.

The culture they have created – They live and breathe our core values and want their respective teams to succeed in every way possible. There is also a great sense of comradery (and banter) amongst the team, we are all a little cheeky and never go long without a laugh.

The way they challenge us – They constantly challenge us to innovate and improve which pushes us to be the best we can be. It’s has been awesome to see all the different ways we have been able to support clients and candidates achieve their respective goals over the years.
